I wanted to go watch The Hunger Games…

So I walked to the cinema thinking there’s only one show on but, when I got the the cinema, it wasn’t showing.

Sucks to be me.

I’m going to go watch “Cabin in the Woods”

I can’t wait. I really hope it scares the crap out of me. It’s been a long time since I’ve really been scared by a film - if ever. I love the idea of being scared but it’s so rare for it to actually happen.

Also, this is the first time I’m going to the cinema in 9 months! Isn’t that crazy?!

kozmosis-deactivated20120207 asked: I didn't have enough room to reply to the post and have to send two messages. I've seen that movie and I used to think about that same thing, wondering if I could would I go through with it? Before, I probably would have said that I would because of how much something hurt. Now the more I think about it, I don't think I would. If the memory of them goes, then wouldn't it also mean that the lessons you learned from that person and relationship go along with it? Even if it was a bad break up...

I think you should take whatever you learned from it along with you. In a way, it can help you grow in some way. If mistakes were made, it would help to make sure you don’t let the same thing happen again. I couldn’t do something like that just for that reason, despite how bad a break up might have been.

I totally agree. Exactly, everything would go. I don’t think I could ever bring myself to let go of anything like that. I’m a firm believer in being the sum of my experiences and if my experiences weren’t there I wouldn’t be the person I am now. I guess it also depends on if you’re content being the person you are?

I watched ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’…

with my house mate tonight and I can’t believe how that film can blow my mind over and over again. I’ve seen it so many times now but it never fails to move me.

It’s about a guy, played by Jim Carrey, who decides to erase memories of his ex-girlfriend, played by Kate Winslet, from his mind.

I feel the film brings up so many interesting philosophical questions.

Would you erase someone you once loved from your mind if you went through a horrible break-up?

So I watched this movie called “Like Crazy” today

I saw the trailer for it a few months ago and it stood out to me so I kept reminding myself that I’d have to watch it once a decent quality torrent was available. Anyway, I found a torrent for a screener version last night and I watched the movie this afternoon and…

I want to punch both the lead characters over and over again for making one stupid decision after another. I really got so pissed off at point that I turned the film off and walked away and bitched about it to my house mate. I finally watched the rest about half an hour later.

The movie was really good. I loved the cinematography. It was shot on a Canon 7D camera which is astounding because it’s so incredibly inexpensive and the results so impressive. The lighting is extremely minimalistic which adds so much depth to the film. The direction is what I like to call ‘MTV hip’ with little jumps and cuts. It’s really well directed and edited.

It’s a bit of a shame the beginning wasn’t a bit slower. Everything happens too quickly and I don’t know if you really care as much about the characters as you should by the time things start going wrong. Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think.

I totally forgot to say what the film was about. It’s a romantic drama about an American guy and a British girl who fall in love but can’t be together for this reason and that.

I showed my house mate ‘Before Sunrise’ a couple of nights ago…

and we’re going to watch ‘Before Sunset’ tonight.

Not a single person I’ve shown these films to hasn’t loved them.

You can watch them here:

Day 05 – Favorite love story in a movie

I’ve been looking forward to this challenge entry for a few days now. When I saw it I knew exactly at that very moment which love story I was going to pick. The only doubt I had would be whether or not I would be able to give the love in the films the justice it deserved.

Before Sunrise and Before Sunset are two films that tell the story of Jessie and Celine. The first film starts with the two of them meeting on a train heading from Bratislava to Paris and them getting off in Vienna to spend a day and night just walking around and talking.

From the first moment they start talking the realise they have a connection and, as the movie goes on, you can actually see them falling in love with each other. The information they share, the way in which they expose their souls to each other, and the perfect comfort the have with each other is amazing to behold.

Jessie and Celine spend the day talking about life, death, art, culture, everything. They meet people along the way and joke and tease each other. The connection is real. The connection is rare. The connection is beautiful.

I don’t really want to say too much about the story because I implore you to watch both films. They’re truly amazing and are certainly worth your time. The second film is set nine years later and follows a very similar structure to the first film - almost identical.

What I love about both films is the genuineness of the characters and the realness of it all. These are two people who are on the precipice of life and have real hopes, fears, aspirations, and worries. Even with all that they’re able to connect with another person on so many different levels. They’re able to see something in another person that sticks with them.

There are a few lines in the second film where Jessie and Celine talk about the impact they’ve had on each others’ lives and it’s heartbreaking. It really is profound what a person can mean to another even when you’ve only shared… I’m not going to finish that thought because I want you to watch the films!

I remember that it was in the first film where Celine tells Jessie about her grandmother and her life and how it was. She tells him about her whole life she was married and happy and had children and grandchildren but the whole time she was in love with some guy who she knew years ago. It’s kind of foreshadowing. There are so many layers to their personalities and what makes them, them. The characters are so engrossing and you relate to both of them in different ways at points in the films.

Richard Linklater wrote and directed both films. He actually based the first story on a night he spent walking and talking to a woman in Philadelphia.

It’s such a beautiful story.

Please watch these movies. Everyone will find something to love about them.

Day 04 – A movie that makes you sad

The Pianist

This one was really difficult but once I realised I wondered why it didn’t jump out at me far sooner than it did.

The Pianist is one of the saddest movies I have ever seen. It’s the true story of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish Jew, and his struggle through World War 2. It tells of his survival in the face of extreme odds and the horrors he faced. Adrian Brody won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the hardships Szpilman faced at the hands of the Nazis.

The direction of the film is truly masterful in the hands of Roman Polanski. The cinematagraphy is breathtaking. The scenes of Warsaw after the destruction at the hands of the Nazis is shocking and deeply saddening.

Although the film finishes on a high, what saddens me most about this movie is that humans are capable of such horrors towards each other. There’s so much hate in the world and we’ve inflicted the worst of it on each other for as long as we have been on this planet. An added sadness comes from the fact that this film was released at a time the world was getting ready to go to war again. The Iraq war had just started and once again the world would see the ugliness in man. It’s hard to not feel depressed at the vulgarity of actions of man but hope remains. The human spirit endures. We fight. We resist. We survive.

There’s beauty in that. As bitter-sweet as it may be that we have to see the worst in man in order to see the best there’s an unequivocal beauty that stems from enduring the worst.

Hope springs eternal.

I’ve prayed isha…

and I’m already in bed.

Tonight I’m going to watch Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain, also known as Amelie, and probably fall asleep wishing the real world could be that beautiful.

It’s my favourite film…

Day 03 – A movie that makes you really happy

Jerry Maguire

There are a few films that I’ve seen more than once that make me really happy and this is certainly one of them. It’s the first one that came to my mind when I saw the title of today’s post. I really love this movie and it never fails to give me goosebumps in a couple of scenes. The interview at the end being one of them, of course.

The story tells the tale of a sports agent who has bad pizza one night and has an epiphany about the sport he represents. When he shares his inspirational new direction he finds himself out of a job. He rescues one single client and the film is a kind of buddy movie set against that with a significant romantic plot attached.

We all know Tom Cruise is a little bit crazy but I really like him in a lot of films, this being one of them. He’s a fairly decent actor and Renee Zellweger broke out as an actress because of this film. The kid who plays her son is way too adorable.

Anyway, the film makes me smile and I’m happy whenever I’ve seen it. I don’t care if it’s a chick flick (it’s not, it’s a romantic drama!), it’s still good!

Anonymous asked: I don't think Into The Wild is underrated. Since you also got your info from IMDB, you should have noticed it's 8.2/10 rating amongst 140,000+ raters, and the fact that it's in the top 150 of IMDB's top 250 films.

Hmmm… okay, so you might have a point in that sense but maybe IMDB included it on the list because not all that many people have actually seen it? The rating is fantastic but maybe it could have been even higher!

If a couple of people sought out the film because of my post about it then I’ll be more than happy. I really wish more people watch it because then I can talk to them about it!
