It’s the classic age old question. Would you rather be “burdened” with knowledge or free in ignorance? Would you rather see the ills and difficulties in the world and know you’re powerless to do anything about most of them or would you rather be aware of nothing more than your immediate surroundings and even then be clueless to anything potentially harmful? It’s a question I’ve wrestled with for years and I think, with some help, I finally found my answer earlier this year.

Don Draper is a bit of a hero of mine. I don’t know why this is because he has a lot of personality traits that I find to be difficult to agree with. Still, he has a moral centre and perspective that is difficult to not be attracted to. Draper is assured, confident, a genius, and has a way with people that is remarkable. The biggest problem with Don Draper being a hero of mine is that he’s not real.
Humans are shit. We’re selfish, greedy, manipulative creatures who have what’s best for us at heart and we put that first. There might be a million and one reasons for this and they all have some element of truth to it. Sometimes though, we’re able to get past that shit and selfishness to do something, create something, be something that really makes a difference in the lives of others (whilst helping ourselves at the same time but shhhh this is supposed to be a positive blog). Enter TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) who promote “ideas worth spreading”.
