Anonymous asked: well, maybe the day i was born and be dead instead of breathing..

So, if you went back in time and stopped yourself from ever being born/dying at birth, how do you think the world would be different now?

Don’t worry… I’m fine but this is fucked up… I could have died

There’s nothing like flirting with death to put life in to perspective…

and all the crazy things we do and think.

I was such a massive idiot last week for doing some of the things I did, for saying some of the things I said, and for… just being.

I’m sorry for being cryptic. I’m not sure if I want to share what happened today with you guys. I know it’s going to hurt a lot of people and make some others freak out…

Everything is okay, don’t worry.

I don’t want to be melodramatic but…

I have this crazy feeling I’m going to die this weekend and I can’t seem to shake it.

Either on the way to Mecca, between Mecca and Medina, or on the way back from Medina.

SubhanAllah.

A crazy day…

I was tired earlier because when I woke up to pray Fajr this morning I found it really difficult to go back to sleep. It’s been like that for a couple of days but I seem to find sleep elsewhere, like this afternoon when I got home from work. Work has changed hours. Because there’s nothing to do now teachers only have to be present between 9am and 2pm. The lack of work has brought out the worst in a lot of people… Let me explain and then go on to something that could have lead to death…

My Kindle stopped working…

On the way home from Farasan Island last weekend I was reading (and just about finishing) the 6th book in the Dark Tower series by Stephen King on the plane. I was feeling a bit tired so I went to sleep for a bit. When I woke up my Kindle was none-responsive and then it turned on of its own accord. When I read some of the last few pages it turned itself off and rebooted. This happened about 10 times over the next hour.

Osama Bin Laden, politics, control, and 1984

Osama Bin Laden (OBL) is dead. The news came through this morning/last night and reactions have been fairly weird. There are a whole lot of things that have been on my mind about it today. I’ve been thinking about the timing, the information that has been released, the reaction of people, and what it might mean.

Remind me to not drive anywhere far in Saudi again…

So, this weekend just gone I went to Mecca to perform my 4th Umrah since I got to the Kingdom. This time was like the other times in that we drove there from Riyadh. The difference was that it was only me and one of my friends who did all the driving there and back (900km/560miles) because I don’t know how to drive. That wasn’t even the scary part…

Masjid Al-Nabwi in the distance with Jannatul Baqi in the foreground.
Medina formed the first real community of Muslims after their migration from Mecca early in Islamic history. It’s because of this that a lot of the graves of the earliest Muslims are in Medina. The main graveyard of the Prophet’s (PBUH) companions and contemporaries is across the way from the central mosque and is accessible by visitors to the city after dawn until midday and then from the late afternoon until the night.
It’s a really strange place to visit. You’re in the final resting place of the some of the holiest people in Islamic history, the family of the Prophet (PBUH), and Muslims over the years. It’s spiritually enlightening. You open your mind to the kind of life you can lead.
Like at the grave of Muhammad (PBUH), there were lots of people worshipping at the graves. There were police officers and religious police advising people against such actions and telling them to stop. There were massive signs that quoted the Quran and Hadith that forbid the action of praying to the dead to help them. They were encouraging people to just pass their greetings to the dead and to use the opportunity to contemplate their own lives and worry about their own hereafter.
I walked around for about forty-five minutes to an hour a short while after the dawn prayer and took a few pictures (although it was banned) and this is my favourite.
