Feeling good...
Seriously, those days when you wake up and everything just feels amazing are the best. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been sleeping much or are tired. You wake up with a vibrancy and everything is perfect. There’s nothing that can get you down. Today is one of those days for me.
I woke up for Fajr and didn’t go back to sleep. I went to sleep at around midnight and my...

New Followers!!!
The picture I posted the other day got the most amazing response I’ve ever had to anything on Tumblr and I’m really glad it was such a powerful image of solidarity and love.
I’ve had a whole load of people visit the blog, because of the response, and I just want to welcome them. To my new followers, please, ask me anything. Get in touch! It’ll be great to hear from you.

Distance
It sucks! Seriously. It really sucks. I’ve been feeling it loads these last few days.
I mean, there are so many places I want to be at, so many people to see, so many things to do. Instead I’m here.
I could be in England hanging out with my friends and Family.
I could be in Egypt, fighting with my brothers against oppression and evil.
I could be in New York having the time of my...

Guest blog by Sarah: Turning 30
Today I’ve swapped blogs with Waq, I write over at my own blog; Sarah’s Blog. I think Waq is one of the people I’ve “known” for the longest time through twitter and we’ve never actually “met”. A joint love for all things Manchester United and now he’s among one of my closest twitter friends.
So anyway here’s my blog about “Turning...

I had my best day in Riyadh yet!
It was amazing. So, so, so much fun.
I didn’t sleep much last night because I was up late and then woke up for Fajr and didn’t go back to sleep. I was in my room when my room mate knocked on my door at around 9.30am and asked if I wanted to go to the desert with him. He said that I only had 15 minutes if I wanted to go and that I’d better hurry up.
I had a really quick shower,...

I feel great
Seriously, things are really cool right now in a whole bunch of ways. A lot of things about Saudi Arabia are falling in to place and I really can’t complain about where I am. Sure, I wouldn’t mind being in some other city of the world or whatever but, right now, this is awesome.
Now, I don’t know if this is me talking or dopamine. I had an amazing workout this afternoon. My 6...

So I'm at work and there's no work...
…and I have music and politics on my mind so so I’m listening to The Beatles. I didn’t want to listen to any specific album so I’m listening to their best of remixed thing released a couple of years ago, Love.
I think I knew I was going to be listening to this album today because I’ve had their song ‘Revolution’ stuck in my head for a few weeks now.
I...

500th post!
It’s a journey that started on March 17th, 2010, and it’s one that’s still going strong. I started writing this blog as a way of chronicling my time as a TEFL teacher (I was just about to start my course to teach me how to teach) and other things that were going on with me. Over the last 10 months (I can’t believe it’s been that long!) I’ve written about so many...

Thoughts Manifested: Why Ignorance is Bullshit and... →
manifesthought:
I’ve always wanted to know the truth. I’ve always been curious to uncover any type of information. Sometimes, it hurts me, what I find. But in the end, I don’t want to be ignorant. I don’t want to be fooled. I don’t want to live not knowing. Truth is what’s real. *
I do accept that ignorance…

Arabic classes...
Finally! I’m starting formal Arabic classes tomorrow. I’ve been so lazy with learning the language and I’ve found motivation impossible to come by. When I first got the job I was told that Arabic classes would be thrown in and it was part of the package and stuff but my employers were really slow in getting anything organised. Well… they’ve got it together now and I...

Guess where I'm going...
So, today I made a plan. We sat down, had a meeting, reached a decision, and agreed on it all. We’ve made a plan that is stronger than tentative and now I can tell you all about it…
I’m going to Medina the week after next. We leave on the 4th of February and come back on the 6th of Feb.
I’m going to be driving with one of the guys I went to Mecca with on the Wednesday...

Week two on my exercise plan...
So, last week I wrote about how my fitness plan had started and how it was coming along. I’m doing the program that will get me doing 100 consecutive push-ups, 200 consecutive sit ups, and 200 consecutive squats. At the end of the week I’m experiencing mixed feelings.
Let’s start off with the push-ups, as they’re the first exercise I do in the workout. Last week I was...

Okay... so New York in August might not happen...
A few weeks ago I wrote on this blog about going to New York in August for a five day shopping extravaganza trip and blowing a whole big sum of money on a nice collection of gadgets and toys.
I’m thinking that the trip might not work out now…
You see… I was figuring that I could use that money and have a good time in August. Then it hit me that it’s going to be Ramadan...

Chaos in Riyadh!
It’s chaos here! People have no idea what to do. Riyadh is engulfed in a strange state right now and my employers sent me home. Its’ all because of one tiny thing…
The rain. It was hilarious this morning. It was raining fairly hard and there was thunder and lightening. It’s the first time I’ve seen rain in three months and it’s the first time there’s been...

Skype
I love Skype! If it wasn’t for Skype I wouldn’t have been able to play hide and seek with my niece, who is two and two months, this evening. I would have been able to talk to my friends and stay in touch with the people nearest and dearest to me. I would have gone a little bit crazy out in the middle of the desert.
Technology is amazing. What was once imagined in the wildest depths...

I'm kind of embarrassed...
So, yesterday I made this big song and dance about how I was going to see Gordon Brown and it was going to be awesome and I was going to get to meet and greet him and all this other stuff…
You see, I went along this morning to the conference thing and watched the opening ceremony and stuff. I saw Gordon on stage just hanging out and doing his thing. I saw the former Prime Minister of New...

Guess who I'm seeing tomorrow...
It’s pretty awesome when you work at a university that has ideas above its station and aspirations to be ‘one of the best in the world’. Sure, sometimes it means that they make me work harder and try to make sure I’m ‘the best’ but on other occasions it means they try something fairly grand to impress someone or other. Well, tomorrow is one of those days and...

A week on my new fitness regime
So, I’ve been on a diet since I got to Saudi Arabia and my weight is the lowest it’s ever been in my adult life. My results have been pretty great so and I’m really happy with them but I’m changing the way I work out now. Before it was strict diet of around 1500 calories a day without much exercise.
I need to make sure I increase my muscle mass as it’ll add tone and...
